How many years have you been in business? How many homes have you built?
We have been in business since June 2010. In that time we have built over a thousand single-family homes and townhomes.
Are you licensed (where required) and insured?
We hold an unlimited general contractors license in the state of North Carolina. In addition we carry liability and workers compensation insurance that is comprehensive and appropriate for a builder of our size.
How do you compare yourself to other builders? What are the most important benefits of the homes you build?
We build exceptional homes with floor plans that have been designed and refined to be very livable. The vast majority of our floor plans are open and have many windows to let in natural light. In addition, we try to fit laundry room storage cubbies and mud room drop zones in most of our plans. Our company is dedicated to customer service and we are here to serve our employees, trade partners, customers and our community.
What type of warranty do you offer?

Can you give me references from prior home buyers?
Yes, we can provide references from prior home buyers. We have numerous references on our customer testimonial web page. In addition, there are also reviews on our Google My Business pages in Fayetteville, Raleigh and Wilmington.
Do you build model homes I can tour? If not, can you help me make an appointment to see a home you built for another customer?
Yes, we have a model home in many of our neighborhoods. We also have showcase homes that you would be able to tour to see other floor plans we offer. If there is a floor plan you'd like to see, please be sure to ask one of our knowledgeable on-site sales consultants. They may be able to direct you to see a showcase home in another neighborhood. You can make an appointment to see model homes in any of our neighborhoods by calling 910-672-7296 or sending us an email request. With enough notice we may be able to schedule an appointment with a current McKee Homes homeowner to view their home. Please ask one of the McKee Homes sales consultants for more information.
What are the major energy-saving features of homes you build?
Our homes are designed and built to the "McKee Energy Smart" standards. This includes many energy saving features like 15 SEER heat pumps, radiant barrier roof sheathing, programmable wifi thermostats, Low E windows and many more energy saving features.
Do you build only from home plans you supply? Or can I provide my own set of plans?
We have a wide variety of plans and elevations to choose from ranging from approximately 1,000 sq. ft. to 4,000 sq. ft. Typically, we build these plans on lots that we own in the neighborhoods where we are building. We do not modify our home plans beyond the offered upgrades and options, however we will work with injured veterans and others with special needs to modify some of our floor plans for those who need specially adapted homes.
What standard features do your homes include? What options and upgrades can I select?
The features we offer vary depending on the neighborhood you choose. We offer low maintenance vinyl siding, shakes and trim in a variety of colors along with exterior stone accents in many of our neighborhoods as well as cement board siding and elevations with special exterior details in other neighborhoods. You can select from a variety of cabinet colors, flooring, exterior colors, cultured marble and granite.
Most of our homes include tiered kitchen cabinets with crown molding, granite counter tops and ceramic tile backsplash in the kitchen, along with a stainless steel appliance package. We also offer cultured marble counter tops in the bathrooms, upgraded decorative light fixtures, and buyers choice of selected carpets, hardwoods, laminates, vinyl and tile (depending on neighborhood). Who will oversee the construction of my home? Who should I contact with any questions I may have?
Every community at McKee Homes has its own project manager or "personal builder" who we have handpicked to oversee the construction of your home. Should any questions come up during the process, you may contact your personal builder or your McKee Homes sales consultant to answer any questions.
How and when can I make changes or upgrades before and during construction?
At time of contract, you will be given a Selection and Change Order policy that explains in detail the timelines and cost for selections and change orders.
How and when will the final price for my home be determined?
All of our homes have a set base price for standard selections. However McKee Homes allows you to personalize your home, so the final price will be determined when all selections and change orders have been made.
How often (and when) will I have access to the home during the building process?
Your safety is very important to McKee Homes. While your home is being built it is a construction site and there are potential dangers that may not be visible to you. We encourage you to walk your home while under construction, but do it safely. You will need to make an appointment with your personal builder if you want to walk your home during business hours. When you are walking your home you will be required to wear a hard hat for your protection.
How long will my home take to complete?
Every community is different and it will depend on the amount of upgrades you add to your home. On average, from time of contract to close date will be four to six months.
Does the community have a Home Owners Association and/or an Architectural Review Committee? If so, may I get a copy of their rules and the amount of any fees?
Most communities will have their own HOA fees which are charged to homeowners based on what the community offers. Some communities have Architectural Review Committee's that will require homeowners to submit approvals for fencing or changes made to exterior of home. Your buyer agent or McKee Homes sales consultant can provide this information to you.
What's your process for inspection at key points of construction, at final walk-through, and to address any matters that need to be corrected or finalized?
As part of the process with McKee Homes, you will receive orientations where you meet with your personal builder to discuss different stages of your home. You will receive a pre-construction meeting before the home is started, a pre-rough-in orientation to go over placements of phone and cable outlets and any special upgrades you may have chosen. You will also receive a pre-drywall orientation to verify all upgrades have been put in before drywall is applied to the walls. You will have a final orientation of the home where your personal builder and our Quality Manager will show you how everything works and review all applicable warranty information and procedures. The pre-construction meeting and final orientation are the most important orientations in the process and normally take around one and a half to two hours to complete. They are loaded with information you will find helpful as you start the next phase of your life in a McKee Home.
If you purchase a home that is already under construction or is completed, you will have at least a pre-construction meeting and final orientation. However, the stage the home is in at contract will determine any other orientations.
